Honey is the only food produced by an insect that humans can eat.
Lavender and wisteria are fantastic for bees because their vibrant blue and purple flowers aligns perfectly with the colour spectrum bees see best. Both plants produce abundant, high-quality nectar and pollen, serving as vital food sources to help sustain local bee populations.
To produce a pound of honey, a colony of bees needs to collectively fly approximately 55,000 miles - that’s equivalent to orbiting around the Earth twice!
The ancient Egyptians used honey in wound care thousands of years ago, and for good reason. Not only does it have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, but its thickness and stickiness also provide a barrier to protect wounds as they heal.
Bees have two stomachs, one for digesting their own food and another special 'honey stomach' for carrying nectar and sometimes water back to the hive.
Communication within a honeybee colony goes beyond simple buzzes. Bees perform an intriguing series of movements, known as the ‘waggle dance,’ to share the location of a food source with their fellow bees.
